It was in 1972 when Paul Berg began his research on genetic engineering. This American biochemist formed the foremost DNA molecule that was composed of elements from different organisms. Getting help from the lambda phage, Berg was successful in introducing the SV-40 virus gene inside a bacterium. He is called the Father of Genetic Engineering.
In 1980, Paul Berg got the Nobel Prize in the field of Chemistry.
