Which of the following is an Example of Holozoic Nutrition? A. Humans B. Fungi C. Bacteria D. Virus

Answer: A. Humans

Holozoic Nutrition is a type of heterotrophic nutrition. This process is seen in organisms. Holozoic Nutrition involves the process of digestion, ingestion, assimilation and absorption of liquid and solid food materials to obtain nutrients. The entire digestion process occurs inside the body; only the waste portions are thrown out of the body in excretion.

In short, a solid or liquid form of food is taken inside the body, the body performs several processes inside, and finally, the waste product comes out of the body through excretion.

As per the above question, Option A, humans are an example of Holozoic Nutrition. Apart from humans, Amoeba and Dogs are other examples of Holozoic Nutrition. In Holozoic Nutrition, organic building blocks and energy is obtained by intaking other organisms, parts of other organisms, decaying organic matter, and even blood.

Holozoic Nutrition is a contrast to Holophytic Nutrition. In the case of Holophytic Nutrition, organic block building or energy is obtained through chemosynthesis and photosynthesis. Holozoic Nutrition is also a contrast to Saprozoic Nutrition, where the digestive enzymes are externally released. This results in the formation of monomers, which are tiny organic molecules. The environment directly absorbs these monomers.
