Answer: In swampy and salty lakes, there are pneumatophores inside the plants. In mangrove plants, specialised roots known as knees, as well as pneumatophores, are growing. These have roots that extend vertically upward and are seen flourishing in salt marshes. They are geotropically negative. Pneumathodes, tiny respiratory pores located just on terminals of the vertical roots, allow air to reach the roots. These include Heritiera, Rhizophora, and others.
