What is Water Pollution?

Water Pollution is the contamination of water bodies due to human activities. It makes the water unusable for drinking, cooking, swimming, cleaning and other chores.

Answer – Water Pollution is the contamination of aquatic bodies which happens due to human activities. It makes the water of no use. Under the water bodies, you can count the rivers, lakes, reservoirs, oceans and groundwater. The contamination in water bodies occurs due to industrial activities, sewage activities, urban activities, and agricultural activities. Water pollution is also the cause of water-borne diseases. It happens to those who use the polluted water for bathing, washing, drinking and other uses. 

Types of Water Pollution – 

  1. Marine Pollution – The majority of this waste occurs due to land-based activity.
  2. Nutrient Pollution – Nutrient pollution occurs due to surface runoff from farm fields, septic tanks leakage and emissions from combustion.
  3. Biological Pollution – It comes from living organisms.
  4. Thermal Pollution – The main cause of thermal pollution is to use of water as a coolant by power plants.
