Answer: Decomposers play an essential part in the functioning of the Ecosystem as they assist in the flow of energy throughout to maintain ecological balance. They are considered the chef for the Primary Producers by providing the required nutrients, which are obtained by breaking apart dead organisms into simpler organic materials.
Decomposers feed on leaf litter, dead animal carcasses and other waste materials. They are also termed as Earth’s Cleanup Crew. The elementary substances that are formed by decomposers include water , carbon dioxide and simple compounds containing Nitrogen , Phosphorus and Calcium. These are the necessary nutrients that are required by plants for their growth.
