What is the Longest and Shortest Bone in the Human body? What are their Measurements in Inches?

Q: What is the longest and shortest bone in the human body? What are their measurements in inches?

Answer: In the human body, the femur is the longest bone, and the bone situated in the middle ear is the stapes, the shortest bone in our body. The longest bone femur can be recognised from the outside by noticing the thighs, and the thigh bone is its popular name. The femur is also the strongest bone in our body. It can sustain up to 30 times your weight. It cannot break with minor accidents. Femur also works as a link between muscles, and ligaments, which are present in the hips and legs to the whole body. It is probably 20 inches long.

The femur can be classified into three parts Shaft, Proximal, and Distal. Furthermore, proximal, the shaft, and distal are also divided into subcategories. The Shaft consists of linea aspera, popliteal fossa, pectineal line, and Gluteal tuberosity.  The proximal included Head, Neck, lesser trochanter, greater trochanter, intertrochanteric, and crest.  The Distel consists of Medial condyles, lateral epicondyles, and intercondylar fossa.

On the other hand, the stapes, also known as the stirrup, are the smallest bone in the middle ear. It is the innermost bone of ossicles, and its work is to send sound waves to the ear’s flat base. If the stapes get injured due to an accident, for example, an injury in someone’s head, then a person can lose its ability to listen fully or partially. It is one of the three bones present in the ear; the other two are the malleus and incus. The stapes are classified into four parts:neck, head, two crura, and base. It resembles a wishbone. The measurement of stapes is around 2 to 3 mm.
