Answer: Centrioles are important cell components present only in animal cells and not in plant cells. They are cylindrical and rod-shaped structures placed near the nucleus. Some of their functions are:
- They play a vital role in facilitating the reproduction of cells
- They engage in the arrangement of mitotic spindles during cell division
- It aids in cytokinesis
- It organises the microtubules in the cytoplasm
- They regulate the position of the nucleus and other organelles in the cell
- It assists the separation of chromosomes and allows the emergence of spindle fibres
- They guide the genesis of cilia and flagella
