What is Phloem in Vascular Tissue given its Components and Functions with the help of a Diagram?

Answer:-

A category of vascular tissue is phloem.  Phloem transports sucrose starting from the source to the sink, that is, from photosynthetic tissues such as leaves to other portions of the plant. Unlike the xylem, phloem transport is bidirectional. Phloem is composed of four major components in angiosperms. Sieve tube components, companion cells, phloem parenchyma, as well as phloem fibres are the various components of phloem.

  • Sieve tube element: A sieve tube element is indeed a long tube-like architecture with perforations in the end wall that forms sieve plates.
  • A parenchymatous cell is a companion cell. Pit fields connect companion cells that are affiliated longitudinally with the sieve tube elements.
  • The phloem parenchyma consists of cylindrical cells with tapering ends.
