A functioning megaspore’s nucleus divides during mitosis to produce two nuclei that migrate to opposing poles. A two-nucleate embryonic sac results from this.The creation of the four-nucleate & 8 stages of something like the embryo sac is accomplished by two further consecutive mitotic nuclear divides.

In such free nuclear type mitotic divisions, cytokinesis does not quickly follow karyokinesis.The walls are built just after the eight-nucleate phase, which results in the organization of the normal female gametophyte. The two previous nuclei, known as polar nuclei, are positioned below the reproductive apparatus in the huge central cell. Six of the eight nuclei are enclosed by cell membranes and arranged into cells.
