What is Meant by Acropetal and Basipetal Order?

Answer:

Acropetal Order:

  • In this type of positioning the older flowers are placed at the bottom or base of the inflorescence while new flowers emerge at the apex of the inflorescence. Consequently, new blossoms and buds should be visible at the highest point of the inflorescence
  • Indefinite or unrestricted growth of new flowers, as the main axis keeps on growing
  • Racemose inflorescence

Basipetal Order:

  • Here the older flowers are situated at the apical position and new flowers and buds at the base/bottom
  • Inflorescence primary axis ends/terminates in flower, mostly with the older flower
  • Definite or confined formation of flowers
