What is Immunization?

Answer: It is the process of developing immunity in an individual against infectious diseases by administering a potent vaccine.

In the human body, vaccines develop a defence mechanism against the disease. They comprise of a similar germ or virus that is responsible for the infection. However, it is in its weakened form. When the person is immunized, the body is misled into thinking that it has been infected and the immune system makes antibodies to kill the viruses that antibodies remain in the body of that person for a prolonged period and remember to fight the virus and hence prevent infection. Hence, an individual who has been vaccinated against a particular condition is unlikely to contract the same disease again.
