What is HYV Give an Example

Answer:- High-yielding Varieties (HYVs) is the agricultural crops that usually yield better produce as compared to the normal quantity of yield. These crops started becoming popular in the 1960s and have contributed a decent amount to the Green Revolution.  Farmers can engage in multiple cropping and thus can earn more profits. The main characteristics of such crops are-

  •       Crop produce per area (hectare) is higher
  •       Reaction to fertilizers is better
  •       Early ripening of the crop
  •       Improved ability to fight many diseases
  •       More dependence on irrigation as well as fertilizers
  •       Better quality crops can be produced

Example- Wheat, soybean, corn, rice, potato and cotton.
