What is a balanced diet?

A balanced diet is a diet which contains all the nutrients that a human body needs to keep it healthy. A balanced diet includes a variety of nutrients to provide the body with water and energy and minerals, vitamins, and proteins. In order to maintain optimum health, a diet should be low in saturated fat and salt (sodium), high in carbohydrates, and fiber-rich foods that are low in calories like whole grains and fresh vegetables or fruit should be eaten regularly. Besides keeping your weight within a healthy range to work out effectively, eating right also helps people live longer.

A healthy and balanced diet includes fresh vegetables and fruits, grains, and lean proteins like poultry, fish, and beans. Whole-grain bread and cereals, along with lean meats, dairy products, fruits, and vegetables, should form the basis of one’s daily diet.

Fresh fruit is preferred over juice because it provides fibre which aids in digestion. A person’s diet should include a wide variety of nutrients like vitamins A and C, iron, calcium, and potassium that help prevent health problems like cancer and heart disease, and diabetes. People who eat a well balanced diet tend to sleep better. This, in turn, reduces stress and helps to maintain a healthy weight. It is also very important to be careful about anything that you eat or drink. For example, eating too much fat, salt, and even impure water can cause health problems like high blood pressure and cancer.
