What are the physical features of India? Explain points.

Answer: India is known as a land of diversity. India comprises a huge range of physical features that makes the country completely fulfilled in geographical sense. 

The physical features of India are :

  1. Himalayan mountains

The Himalayan mountains are known to be the oldest landmass that was considered to be a part of Gondwanaland. The Gondwanaland included South Africa, South America, Antarctica and Australia as a single piece of land. 

  1. Northern plains 

The formation of Northern plains has taken place with the three major river systems, i.e  The Indus, The Ganga as well as The Brahmaputra with their respective tributaries. The northern plains has been categorized into three categories, i.e, The Punjab plains, The Ganga plains along the The Brahmaputra plains. 

  1. Peninsular plateau 

The peninsular plateau is known to be a table that is made of old crystalline, igneous as well as metamorphic rocks. 

  1. Indian desert 

The Indian desert is located towards the western margins of the famous Aravali hills. 

  1. Coastal plains

The coastal plains are considered to be a stretch of narrow coastal strips. These strips run along the Arabian sea and Bay of Bengal on the west side and east side respectively. 

  1. Islands 

India possesses two popular islands namely, Lakshadweep islands as well as Andaman and Nicobar islands.
