1. Interphase
During interphase: Cell growth occurs and cell forms a replica of its DNA
The interphase can be categorised further into:
G1 phase (first gap phase)
S (synthesis) phase
G2 phase (second gap phase)
2. Mitotic (M) phase
During the mitotic (M) phase: The DNA of the cell gets segregated into two fragments. Division of cytoplasm is accompanied during the segregation giving rise to two new cells.

Cytokinesis: Involves splitting of the cytoplasm of the cell
