Q. Name the plant having reticulate venation

1. Musa

2. Oryza

3. Mangifera

4. Canna

Answer:- (3) Mangifera

Explanation: Mangifera is the name of the plant having reticulate venation out of all the options mentioned above.

  • The process of vein formation on the leaf is known as venation. In other words, the design made by the veins in a leaf is termed venation. There are two types of venation:- one is the Reticulate venation and the other one is the Parallel venation.

  • Reticulate venation – Reticulate venation consists of the irregular vein arrangement for the creation of a network. In other words, if the design is the net like on both sides of the midrib (main and thick vein in the middle of a leaf) of a leaf, then such type of venation is termed reticulate venation.

Examples: Mangifera, hibiscus, china rose, papaya, coriander, leaves of tulsi, etc.

  • Parallel venation – Parallel venation is defined as the veins that run parallel to each other. In other words, when veins are parallel to one another, then this type of venation is called parallel venation.

Examples: Oryza, banana, Musa, grains, grass, etc.

  • Mangifera (or mango) is a dicotyledon plant and has reticulate-venation which is found in its dicots. The leaves of Mangifera are simple, without stipules, and alternate, with petioles 1–12 cm (0.4–5 in) long. The leaves of Mango are irregular in size and shape but normally are oblong with their leaf tips changing from rounded ones to a tapered pointing shape. The veins of Mangifera are interconnected to form a web-like network. It is one of the most usual vein formations in leaves and can also be observed in the leaves of maple trees, rose bushes, oak trees, etc. These veins transport water and food from the leaves throughout different plant parts.
