  • Formation of Secretory Vesicles and Secretion

Secretion is the primary function of the Golgi complex. Synthetic products from the rough endoplasmic reticulum are moved to the Golgi region in different types of cells, where they are freed from the cell through pinocytosis through the plasma membrane. Experimentally, the secretory function of the Golgi appears to be well established.

  • Helps in Enzyme Formation

 It may release Imogen granules (inactivated pancreatic enzymes) into secretory vesicles, which originate from cisternae. Secretory vesicles holding granules move to the cell surface, where their membranes mix with the cell membrane, releasing the contents into pancreatic ducts, where they operate as active digesting enzymes.

  • Storage of Protein

The primary components of the Golgi complex, vacuoles and vesicles, get packed with protein-lipoid material for storage. The secretory activity is aided by these stored products.

  • Formation of Acrosome

 More vesicles and tubules gradually replace the cisternae system, and tiny granules form within some of these vesicles. Within the Golgi complex, these granules constitute secretory products. Few granule-containing vesicles join together to create a single acrosome within a big vesicle that lands on the sperm nucleus’ surface.

  • Formation of Intracellular Crystals

Midglands with crystal-like cells may be seen in the marine isopod Limnaria ligmorum, which is a burrowing form. These may be up to 30 inches long and 15 inches thick. These crystals have been proven to be generated by the Golgi complex and are known to include protein and iron. They are spheroidal in form and lack a surrounding membrane. They’re interested in secretive activities.

  • Milk Protein Droplet Formation

Protein droplets associated with the golgi complex are generated in the lactating mammary gland of mice. The fusing of the surrounding membrane with the plasma membrane normally causes these droplets to open on the cell surface.
