Q. List out the difference between Zygote and Foetus
Zygote and foetus are two distinct terms that refer to the developmental periods that take place inside the uterus or womb of the mother. Both terms refer to the same thing.
- The zygote is created in the body of the female when there is a fusion between the male gamete (sperm) and the female gamete. This occurs during the process of fertilisation (egg)
- The first stage in the development of a baby is called the zygote. A fertilised ovum is another name for an egg that has been fertilised by the union of a sperm cell and an egg cell
- After the first stage (zygote formation), the second stage (blastocystis) begins
- In the third embryonic stage, the brain, heart, and spinal cord form. Arms and legs develop
- The term “foetus” refers to the final product of foetal development. At the beginning of the 11th week of pregnancy, an embryo is referred to as a foetus for the first time
- The foetus is the name given to the developing organism at the stage following the formation of the embryo when it begins to grow more
Zygote Foetus
An egg that has been fertilised by the fusion of sperm and egg is known as a zygote | A foetus is an embryonic stage that resembles a fully developed human being |
Absent of body | There are clearly defined parts of the body |
Two cells | Multicellular |
After fertilisation, this is the final stage. | After cell division and cell labour division, the foetus stage occurs |
