Give 10 Examples of Unisexual and Bisexual Flowers

Q: Give 10 examples of unisexual and bisexual flowers.

Answer: Flowers are the reproductive shape of angiosperms. The Unisexual and bisexual flowers are the two flower types found in plants. Both male and female reproduction are present in flowers. Stamens are male reproductive organs, and Pistils are female reproductive organs. The different arrangements of male and female reproductive organs in flowers are called unisexual and bisexual arrangements.

The Unisexual flower, also known as the incomplete flower, contains male and female reproductive organs and undergoes cross-pollination to reproduce the organs. Examples of the Unisexual flower are Papaya, Coconut flower, Cucumber, Watermelon, White mulberry, Cucumber Maize, Castor bean, Musk melon, Snake gourd, and Tapioca. The unisexual flower contains the male or female reproductive organs in different flowers; the androecium and gynoecium reproductive structures are present in different flowers. Flowers with the androecium reproductive structure are male flowers, and flowers with gynoecium reproductive structure are female flowers.

A Bisexual flower is another type of flower containing female and male reproductive organs in the same flower. They are also full flowers containing gynoecium and androecium in the same flower. Hence the bisexual flowers have both pistils and stamens in one flower. These are also called androgynous and hermaphrodite flowers. Examples of bisexual flowers are- Rose, Lily, Tulip, Mustard, Tomato, Hibiscus, Country bean, Brinjal, Mango, and Sunflower. Self-pollination and cross can occur in a bisexual plant following the presence of male and female reproductive organs in a single flower. The structural difference between unisexual and bisexual flowers is that the female flowers contain pistils and male flowers contain stamens in unisexual flowers. Whereas in bisexual flowers, a single flower contains an ovary and anthers.
