The Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying will organise the ‘Sagar Parikrama’ programme to address the problems of coastal fisherfolk in a phased manner.
About
Sagar Parikrama will focus on the sustainable balance between the usage of marine fisheries resources for the food security of the nation and the livelihood of coastal fisher communities.
It will also put efforts to adopt measures for the protection of marine ecosystems.
It will involve the engagement of the National Fisheries Development Board, Department of Fisheries, Government of Gujarat, Indian Coast Guard, Fishery Survey of India, Gujarat Maritime Board and fisherman representatives.
The event will witness the sanctions/certificates related to the PM Matsya Sampada Yojana awarded to the progressive fishermen, fish farmers and young fishery entrepreneurs.
This will set a suitable example of the Government’s attentiveness towards transforming the fisheries sector and formulating fisheries management plans along with required reforms in the regulatory framework ensuring effective governance in fisheries.
It will also discuss the ways to increase the livelihood opportunities for the fishermen.
It will exert enormous importance on issues like livelihoods, climate change, commerce and security.
