About Marburg Virus

  • It was earlier known as Marburg haemorrhagic fever, which is a severe and fatal hemorrhagic fever.
  • Both Marburg and Ebola are filoviruses, and both illnesses have many clinical features.
  • Rousettus fruit-bats are considered the natural hosts for the Marburg virus.
  • It was first detected in 1967 in Marburg, Germany.
  • Fatality rate: The disease has an average fatality rate of around 50%.
  • Symptoms: High fever, muscle aches and severe headache.
  • Treatment: No approved antiviral treatment or vaccine.
