Types of Coding and Decoding in Logical Reasoning

Coding and decoding seem elementary activities but play an essential role while solving LR questions. There are different types of coding and decoding in Logical Reasoning.

The significance of coding and decoding in reasoning is to grasp a candidate’s reasoning ability. Coding is converting a piece of information into another form of representation through signals. Decoding is translating the coded information into its original form.

Coding and decoding are a part of logical reasoning, where certain rules and regulations are applied to encrypt or decrypt the codes. Therefore only talented candidates can solve this question, making the selection procedure easier. The logical reasoning questions help to detect the arithmetic reasoning skills of an individual. Various coding and decoding practice questions are available online to understand the concept.

The significance of the coding and decoding in reasoning

The significance of coding and decoding in reasoning enhances an individual’s fluency, vocabulary, comprehension and phonemic words. Coding-decoding is important early in the school years. The significance of coding and decoding in reasoning is that it helps us learn how communication happens, the types of coding-decoding and learn to match the pattern with numbers, symbols, and letters to have a more profound, practical knowledge of the language. Coding and decoding is a learning method to explore the world of written language. It also helps improve speed-writing, speed-reading and spelling.

Coding-decoding is an essential process of reasoning. In questions based on coding-decoding, a word or sentence is coded in a particular way, and the candidates are asked to code another word or sentence in the same way or decode the word or sentence.

One must be able to break down information into parts and then reconstruct them into new word.

The ability to code or decode information correctly is an essential skill to succeed at employment, academic achievement, and life satisfaction.

The types of questions asked in the coding and decoding reasoning section evaluate the ability of a person to use the corresponding alphabetical value of a number as the base of most mathematical operations. It is an essential skill that helps students solve word problems and even do basic arithmetic.

Types Of Questions Asked In The Coding And Decoding Reasoning Section can be as follows:-

  • Letter Coding:- letter or alphabets are interchanged by other alphabets or letters by a specific rule, or the pattern is termed as the letter coding in the reasoning section. For example, Decode the following codes:-
  • If a VIOLET is written as a TGMJCR, then what will be the BROWN?
  1. ZPMUL
  2. PMULZ
  3. MPUZL
  4. LPUZM

Solution:- In this type of question, the letter is interchanged with a specific direction. For VIOLET, the first letter V codes T, I codes G, O-M, L-J, E-C, and T-R in the pattern of the backward direction of the alphabetical order by skipping one. In the case of BROWN, it will result in ZPMUL.

  • Number coding:- In the number coding, numerical values or codes are aligned to alphabets or letters or maybe letters are aligned to the numerical values or codes.

For example,

  • If RENT is written as 5678, CEAR is written as 1635, and HAIR is written as 2345, what will be for CHAIR?
  1. 12345
  2. 23451
  3. 32451
  4. 43215

Given information, suggest the numerical values of the alphabet or letters accordingly. Therefore, if it is written as

                       RENT – 5678, CEAR-1635, HAIR-2345,

                             CHAIR would be – 12345

  • Substitution coding:-  In this type, some of the words are assigned to the particular names.

For example, if a cat is called a dog, a dog is called a lion, and the lion is called a rat, then who lives in the forest?

  1. DOG
  2. RAT
  3. LION
  4. CAT

LION lives in the forest, but by the given information, LION is called RAT. Therefore, RAT lives in the forest.

  • Deciphering coding:- In these questions, certain messages are coded in languages given, and code for a particular word or message is asked.

If the “what was it” means in code language is “ lee ra de.” “mo nil”  means “ you go.” “ nil pom ra” means you like it, then what will be “what you like” in that code?

  1. Pom nil ra
  2. Nil ra lee
  3. Mo nil ra
  4. None of the above

According to the given information, what stands for the de, nil stands for like, and pom stands for you. And the given options do not have the codes, so the answer will be none of the above.

Coding-decoding practice questions test the candidates’ powers of observation, attention to detail and reasoning skills. They are used in the verbal and non-verbal sections of the tests.

The significance of coding and decoding in reasoning is used to solve questions based on various operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. The coding and decoding questions test whether a sentence’s underlying logic is grasped and logically applied to deduce the correct answer to seize information clearly without confusion.

Several types of questions are asked in the coding and decoding reasoning sections which include a variety of concepts. For example, the concepts can have blood relation questions. Symbol codes are used for the explanation of two people or values relation. Solving the coding and decoding practice questions will help enhance skills.

Conclusion

The significance of coding and decoding in reasoning and its role in developing abstraction skills is an essential topic concerning future and competitive exams. The ability to reason is a cognitive process that allows one to make decisions, solve problems, and think critically and logically. Good reasoning skills help accomplish our goals effectively and efficiently in any field of work. Poor reasoning skills are a significant obstacle to career success. Coding and decoding have played an important place while selecting the candidate for a government or the private sections. Various rules and regulations are applied to solve or understand the concept of questions.
