How to Solve Ranking and Time Sequence Related Problems

What is ranking and time sequence in logical reasoning?

The reasoning ability component includes questions on ranking sequences. A few persons or objects are frequently present in these inquiries, along with their rankings or positions in some order. You will have to figure out the total count of individuals or items based on this information, as well as the ranks of other people in comparison to the one who is present. The mathematics of items or points in a sequence in terms of their positions is known as ranking sequence.

You will be asked to point out or count various figures or numbers from a sequence in the Date-Time Sequence questions. The sequence will be either chronological or time-based. You will be asked to answer questions that will provide you with a date and ask you to predict a future date or day. You’ll also have to anticipate time from a specific moment in time.

How to solve number ranking questions?

When it comes to number ranking, there are broadly two types of symbols to be aware of. One is more than (>), while the other is less than (<). In addition, you merely need to know three things: greater than a symbol, smaller than a symbol, and equal to symbol to answer these questions.

A person’s rank or location from right to left to top or bottom of a row is decided in a ranking and numbering structure. A rank or position is also assigned, as well as the overall number of people to be calculated. You may even be questioned to guess the floor the person lives on depending on the information provided.

You must read the statement line by line and then apply the cases that follow. A person’s position can also come from any side of the row, and their rank can come from the top or bottom.

Steps to solve number ranking questions?

  • Read the question sentence by phrase and build the argument accordingly, rather than reading it all at once.
  • The horizontal or vertical order or position will be used. Determine the arrangement’s direction.
  • To arrive at the proper order or rating, consider all conceivable scenarios but reject all but the correct one at the end.
  • If all feasible scenarios are not considered, the order or rating will be incorrect.
  • Use the ranking to determine the total number of objects/people, or the total number to assess the ranking.
  • Follow the processor configuration correctly; the reverse engineering approach may not always yield the proper solution.

Solved examples of Number Ranking and Time Sequence

Some examples based on Number Sequence

1. Person X is 23rd from the left in a line of individuals, and there are 5 people after X. So, how many persons are in the row in total?

The number of individuals in the row is calculated as follows: number of people after X + X’s position from the left side.

As a result, the number of individuals is 23 + 5 = 28.
2. If the third day of the month is Tuesday, what is the fourth day before the 27th day of the month?

You can begin by predicting the month’s first day and working your way up from there. Tuesday falls on the 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th of the month. As a result, the 27th day of the month will be a Friday (Tuesday + 3 days =). As a result, we must predict the day: Friday – 4 = Monday. As a result, Monday is the fourth day before the 27th day of the month. As a result, the correct answer is Monday.

3. Khan celebrates his birthday on August 15th, whereas Shah celebrates his birthday on June 25th. If Shah’s birthday falls on a Wednesday one year, what day would Khan’s birthday fall on the following year?

Let’s calculate the total number of days from June 25 to August 15: = 5 (since June has 30 days) + 31 (number of days in July) + 15 = 51. Let’s see how many weeks and days there are in 51 days.

As a result, 51/7 = 7 weeks and 2 days can be written (remainder). Let us begin counting on June 25th. Seven weeks will take us from the second week of August to August 15th. Wednesday Plus two days equals Friday. As a result, Khan’s birthday will be on Friday.

4. Sneha wants to finish all of her work by 10:00 p.m. so she can watch an important TV show. Each of her five prepared subjects has a 40-minute assignment. What is the earliest she may begin her assignment and still complete it in time for the programme?

Time needed to finish assignment = 5 40 = 200 minutes

= 3 hours and 20 minutes

So, Sneha requires 3 hours and 20 minutes in total to finish up all her assignments.

So, the time by which she should start is = 10:00 – 03:20= 06:40 pm.

So, Sneha should start her work by 06:40 pm to finish her work before the show.

Conclusion

Ranking & sequence is a crucial concept in logical reasoning.  It entails arranging the position or ranks of an object or a person from left to right or top to bottom. It requires the use of a few seating arrangement techniques and tactics.

Candidates are asked to determine a certain day or time based on certain variables in time sequence test questions.
