EV and Joule

THEORY

The unit of energy is the electron volt, or Ev. In the International System of Units, or SI units, a joule is a derived unit of energy. Ev and Joule have a proportional relationship. The Joule equivalent value will fluctuate proportionally when the value of Ev changes.

Conversion of eV Joules

The units of energy in two separate systems are eV and Joule. Their mathematical equivalence can be represented as-

                                                1ev=1.602×10-19 J

Where ev is the electron volt and J is the joule

When a charge of 1 electron (1.610-19C) is transferred via a potential difference of 1 volt, an energy change of 1 electron volt occurs

Joule

When a force of 1 newton acts on an item in the direction of its motion across a distance of 1 metre, 1 joule is the work done or energy transferred.

Formula –    1J= 6.2415×1018ev

Symbol –       J

Use of eV and Joule
