All About Applications Of Conductors

Conductors are materials that allow current to pass through them. There are various applications of conductors in our daily life. Let us learn more about their uses.

Conductors are materials or substances that allow current to flow through them. Moreover, they can carry out electricity because they allow electrons to flow within them easily. 

When an object gets the supply of an electric charge, it distributes across the object’s entire surface. Thus, it results in the object’s movement of electrons. 

There are different ways in which we use conductors. For instance, to check the temperature of a body, mercury is a common material in the thermometer. Let us take a look at other applications of conductors.

Applications of Conductors

There are many uses of conductors. Mostly, we use them in our day to day life. A common way mentioned before is the use of mercury in thermometers to check the temperature of a body. We also use conductors in car radiators to eliminate heat from the car’s engine. Similarly, iron is a common material used to conduct heat in vehicle engine manufacturing. 

Other ways in which we use conductors include:

Cooking Equipment

All cooking vessels are made of thermal conducting materials. This materials transfer he heat from the fire to food. The handles of te same are made of insulators, so that the person handling them wil not et hurt.

For Ironing Clothes

A steam or press iron is a tool that we use in our daily lives for removing creases from our clothes. It uses heat energy from electricity flow to perform its task. It has a metal conductor material that we place under the iron, so it is in direct contact with our cloth. 

Manufacturers use an insulator material in the iron to protect us from the heat and help us handle it efficiently and safely. On the other hand, iron is a common material used to conduct heat in vehicle engine manufacturing.

Soldering

Solder is a metal alloy tool that we use for connecting electronics components. You must have seen it often in workshops or repair places that work on electrical appliances. Like other tools that use conductors, this tool also comes with a handle made from an insulator material to protect the user.

Electric Cable Fill

Copper is a pure metal with high electrical conductivity. Thus, we use it for a conductor cable. Many cables use copper-like wired cable, NYA, coaxial cable, NYAF, etc. Thus, copper is used as a cable fill mostly because it has a higher level of conductivity. 

In simpler terms, it can resist high temperatures and moist air better than steel. Moreover, it is a strong material.

Grill & Bake

The baking tools you use comprise conducting materials because we put them in the oven or toaster. The oven or toaster provides heat to cook the food. Further, we also have manual grills made from conducting materials as they also use heat for cooking. 

The only difference is that the heat distributes evenly in an oven, while in a grill, the heat only comes from the bottom.

Electrical Component

Another highly conductive material is gold, which allows electricity to pass easily through it without much resistance. As gold has a higher level of electrical conductivity than other metals like aluminium, copper, etc., it often finds use in electrical components. 

A thin layer of gold is added as an electrical connector to ensure a good connection.

Spark Plugs

The auto parts industry uses silver for the manufacturing of spark plugs. When we drive or ride a vehicle, the spark plug is essential as it efficiently supports the engine’s heating. 

Thus, manufacturers use silver to produce the best spark plugs for motor vehicles. Since silver has lower resistance, it can generate optimal combustion. Therefore, the vehicle works well.

Cable Wire

Silver is a cable making material for different electronic devices. Silver wire has great conductivity properties and better quality than copper wire. For instance, we can find it in our power cables, loudspeakers, audio connector cables, and more.

Therefore, we see that conductors are used commonly in our day to day life. They surround us, whether it’s our cookware or electrical appliances. Apart from daily use, conductors have also got applications at a higher level in industries and specialised equipment. So, it is essential to note that conductors make our lives easier with the various ways they come into use for us. 

However, we must keep in mind that some substances may not work as conductors in one form but will do so in another form. For instance, pure water cannot conduct electricity, but water containing ions and impurities can.
