Potassium bitartrate is used in a variety of food items as an additive, stabiliser, pH control agent, antibacterial agent, processing aid, or thickening and has been approved by the FDA as a direct food ingredient. Rectal suppository administration of potassium bitartrate has a long history of usage in medicine as a laxative.,

The chemical formula for potassium tartrate, sometimes referred to as dipotassium tartrate, is K2(CH)2(OH)2(COO)2. Its molar mass is 226.27 g mol-1 and its chemical formula is K2C4H4O6. Each carboxylic group in potassium tartrate associates with a single potassium cation. In the typical representations used for organic molecules, its chemical structure can be expressed as follows.

Occurrence

During the fermentation of grape juice, potassium tartrate crystallises in wine casks and may precipitate in wine bottles. Additionally, the bottles of fresh grape juice may precipitate with this salt. Potassium bitartrate, a salt that is extremely similar, also precipitates under these circumstances, but bitartrate is present in far greater amounts than potassium tartrate.

Sodium Potassium Tartrate

Sodium Potassium Tartrate is a double tartaric acid salt with the chemical formula C4H4O6KNa.4H2O. Potassium Sodium Tartrate is another name for Sodium Potassium Tartrate, as is Rochelle Salt. It appears like white crystalline powder and tastes cool and salty. Its pH value is between 6.5 and 8.5. Due to its significant piezometric effect, sodium potassium tartrate is advantageous for use in vibrational, sensitive, and acoustic devices.

  • As a laxative, sodium potassium tartrate is employed (a drug or medicine).
