Treatment Modalities

• Thyroid hormone levels are routinely checked in newborns in the United States and many other nations. A tiny blood sample is taken from the baby’s heel for the test. Thyroid hormone (T4) and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels in the baby’s blood are checked by a laboratory.
