Some people are said to have lived for 80 years. The bird is about 33 cm (13 inches) long and light grey with a squared, red tail and a bare, whitish face; the sexes appear to be the same. Gray parrots are common in the rainforest, where they eat fruits and seeds; they cause crop damage but are important oil palm propagators.

Types of Parrots

The various types of parrots are classified based on their size.

• Small-sized Parrots: These parrots can grow to be between 10 and 23 cm in length. Examples include lovebirds, budgerigars, and Bourke’s parrots

• Medium-sized Parrots: These parrots can grow to be between 23 and 33cm in length. Cockatiel, Hahn’s Moscow, Quaker parakeet, and so on

• Large parrots: These can grow to be between 33 and 50 cm in length. Cockatoos, parakeets, African grey parrots, Amazon parrots, and so on

• Extra-large Parrots: They can reach heights of up to 100 cm. Alexandrine parrots, Macaws, and other similar birds are examples

Uses of Parrots

The parrots are well-known for their brightly coloured plumage. They are associated with pirates; Captain Flint is a parrot who was on Treasure Island’s Long John Silver’s shoulder. These are well-known for their ability to imitate humans. Many animals can communicate with humans, but only parrots can communicate with humans using human words. 

• Pets: Parrots make excellent pets because they are intelligent and sensitive creatures. People are drawn to them due to their acrobatics and tricks. Training these birds to talk, do tricks, and speak is simple and enjoyable. Even if they are loud and messy, these can be fantastic champions

• Helper Animals: Rebecca Skloot published an article in “The New York Times Magazine” about people who use unusual animals as a helper. Jim Eggers suffers from bipolar disorder, so he relies on an African Grey parrot named Sadie to help him reduce and avoid rages and to calm him down. Sadie notices when Eggers is about to become agitated and speaks to him to calm him down. Mr Eggers was found to have had only one incident of physiatric behaviour since he had Sadie with him

• Watch Birds: These birds are well known for their intelligence and loud voices, which makes them useful as watch birds. Two incidents have been reported: according to Canada.com, a Texas man was woken up around 1:30 a.m. Colombian police apprehended an Amazon parrot that was acting as a watch bird for a drug gang. The parrot used to yell “Run!” in Spanish. When someone is going to catch them, they say, “You’re going to be caught”

Alex, an African Grey parrot who died in 2007, worked with Dr. Irene Pepperberg, where Alex taught him numerous important concepts to represent the actual thought process
