Difference between Darwinism and Neo Darwinism

In this article we will learn about A Simple Study on the Difference between darwinism and Neo Darwinism, difference between darwinism and neo Darwinism, driving force of darwinism and neo Darwinism, adaptation of darwinism and neo Darwinism.

The main distinction between Darwinism and Neo Darwinism is that Darwinism states that advantageous phenotypic differences that can be passed down are the driving force of speciation, but Neo Darwinism states that only genetic variants may be passed down.

Darwinism and Neo Darwinism are two theories that explain how new species emerge and evolve. Darwinism is the original hypothesis proposed by Darwin and Wallace, whereas Neo Darwinism is a variation of it.

The theory of biological evolution proposed by the English naturalist Charles Darwin (1809–1882) and others is known as Darwinism. According to this theory, all species evolve through the natural selection of inheritable phenotypic differences. As a result, the individual’s ability to compete, survive, and reproduce is enhanced.

Darwinism

Charles Darwin (1809–1882) and others proposed Darwinism as a hypothesis of biological evolution. It claims that all species evolve through natural selection of inheritable phenotypic differences. As a result, a person’s ability to compete, survive, and reproduce is enhanced.

Furthermore, Darwinism’s four basic tenets are as follows:

  • Humans are produced at a rate that exceeds the number of individuals that can survive.

  • Individuals in this group have inheritable phenotypic differences.

  • Some of these distinct phenotypes are better suited to the environment than others.

  • Natural selection accumulates the fittest phenotypes within individuals over time, resulting in the emergence of new species.

Neo Darwinism

Neo Darwinism is a reinterpretation of Darwinian evolution that incorporates Mendelian genetics and contemporary natural selection synthesis. As a result, the accumulation of genotypic variants within a gene pool is described as the major driving mechanism of speciation. Neo Darwinism is also known as the Modern Synthetic Theory of Natural Selection by others. Romans, Huxley, Fisher, Fold, and Haldane were among the Neo Darwinists.

Furthermore, genotypic variances within a gene pool are caused by mutations. Some mutations simply affect a few nucleotides in the genome, whereas others, such as recombination, result in more significant changes. Both of them, however, could be happy accidents that result in novel genotypes that are more suited to the environment. In Neo Darwinism, reproductive isolation also plays a vital role in speciation. Within the gene pool, it provides for differential amplification of the fittest genes. As a result, natural selection of the fittest genes is thought to be contributing to the emergence of new species.

Similarities between Darwinism and Neo Darwinism

  • Darwinism and Neo Darwinism are two terms used to describe the forces that drive speciation.

  • Both make attempts to explain how organisms evolve.

  • Different forms of variations are also referred to as pushing speciation.

  • Each concept’s alterations can be passed down to the next generation.

  • Furthermore, the two notions describe natural selection from distinct perspectives.

Difference between Darwinism and Neo Darwinism

The main distinction between Darwinism and Neo Darwinism is that Darwinism states that advantageous phenotypic differences that can be passed down are the driving force of speciation, but Neo Darwinism states that only genetic variants may be passed down.

Darwinism and Neo Darwinism are two theories that explain how new species emerge and evolve. Darwinism is the original hypothesis proposed by Darwin and Wallace, whereas Neo Darwinism is a variation of it.

Driving force of Darwinism and Neo Darwinism

The accumulation of phenotypic variations is the major driving force described by Darwinism, whereas the increase of genetic variations is the major driving force described by Neo Darwinism.

Reason for variation

The cause of variation is another contrast between Darwinism and Neo Darwinism. Darwinism does not explain why there is variation, however Neo Darwinism does. Mutation, genetic recombination, natural selection, and reproductive isolation are the reasons for diversity in Neo Darwinism.

Effect of Reproductive Isolation

Another distinction between Darwinism and Neo Darwinism is that Darwinism does not believe isolation is a major component of evolution, whereas Neo Darwinism does.

Conclusion

Darwinism is Darwin’s original concept for explaining the origin of new species. According to Darwin, the accumulation of the fittest phenotypic variants within individuals is the main driving factor of speciation. As a result, natural selection is defined as the environment’s survival of the fittest. Neo Darwinism, on the other hand, is a modified version of Darwinism that describes the origin of species on a genetic foundation. As a result, genetic variants are at the heart of Neo Darwinism. Natural selection is based on the differential selection of the fittest genes in a gene pool in this case. As a result, the primary distinction between Darwinism and Neo Darwinism is the form of variation and natural selection employed.
