 It is a type of fish that has a cartilaginous structure. It is also known as Elasmobranchi, which is another name for this group of fish. The majority of the fishes in this category are found in the sea.  They are typically characterised by the following characteristics:

• The majority of their endoskeleton is composed of cartilage
• Placoid is used to construct their exoskeleton (very small denticles coated with lots of sharp enamel)
• The buccal cavity of these fishes is positioned ventrally in their bodies
• A heterocercal distribution of their tail discoveries has been observed
• They have 5 gills on either side of their mouth that are overly revealed, so they do not have an operculum
• This species’ method of fertilisation is accomplished through internal mechanisms
