The American Revolution happened between 1775 and 1783, also known as the United States War of Independence. This was a war in which Great Britain’s 13 North-American Colonies won political independence and moved forward to form the United States of America. The conflict began as a civil war within the British Empire until France joined the war in support of the Colonies in 1778. In 1779, Spain also joined the side of the colonies. The Netherlands provided both financial support and official recognition to the United States. The war was fought on the land with essentially two types of organization: the Continental (national) army and the state militias.
Civil War
The United States was much more powerful than the Confederate States, as it possessed more money, more horses, more factories, more farmland and more railroads. Although, the Confederate State played defensively because they knew that their advantage was that they had a more significant number of people.
Approximately 2 percent of the population of America in 1860 died in this war (752,000-851,000 soldiers). The Civil War ruined the Confederate states. After a period of four long years, the Confederate armies surrendered to the United States in April 1865 at Appomattox Court House and Bennett Place. After the end of the war, the Constitution of America was amended to free the enslaved people to ensure equal protection for all under the law for its citizens. This also resulted in getting the right to vote for black men.
