Formula for Second’s Pendulum

In a stationary pivot, a movable weight is hanged, the movable weight is called a pendulum. For a seconds pendulum the time t= 2 sec. It takes 2 sec for the left and right swing.

The pendulum follows Newton’s law of motion and remains stationary until some external force is given to it. Newton’s law of motion is followed to start the action of the pendulum and how it works will be known in the down article. Just look!

In a stationary pivot, a movable weight is hanged, the movable weight is called a pendulum. At first, it obeys Newton’s 1st law which states that “if an object is moving or is in stationary it remains it’s in position until unless an external force applied on it.”On getting released it starts to oscillate around its equilibrium position. Then it restores its force due to the gravity of the earth and returns to its original position using gravitational acceleration.

The time period of the pendulum:

It is nothing but the desired time to complete one successful oscillation. Many factors affect the time period of the pendulum that are length, amplitude and width of the pendulum.

In a seconds pendulum, the time period required to complete one oscillation is 2 sec. I.e T= 2 sec

The formula for seconds pendulum is

L = g/π²

To know how it starts we have to derive it through the time period formula.

We know that,

The time period formula of a pendulum is given by

   T= 2π√L/g

Where,

T= 2 sec ( for seconds pendulum)

L= Length of the pendulum

g = gravitational force or acceleration due to gravity which has a value of 9.80665 m/s² on earth.

π = pie has a universal value of 3.14

Now we have the equation;

T= 2π√L/g

Squaring it we will get;

T² = 4π² L/g

That implies; L =( T²g)/4π²

Putting T = 2 sec ( T = 2 for seconds pendulum)

I.e know we have the formula L = 4g / 4π² = g/π²

Hence the formula is derived which is

 L = g/π²

Now,

= (9.80)÷(3.14×3.14)

= 9.80 ÷ 9.8596

= 0.9939 meters or 993.6 millimetres

The value of the length of the pendulum can say like 1 cm left from 1m.

Types of pendulum:

There are many types of pendulums are present from which we will discuss here the 3 main types of pendulums that are used are:

  • Simple pendulum:

It is the most common type of pendulum. It is made by hanging a weight on the string. Pendulums may work differently in different parts of the world due to some variation in the gravitational pull of the earth. The study says, near the poles swings are larger than the equator.

  • Double pendulum:

Also called a chaotic pendulum. It is made up of a combination of two simple pendulums. From two pendulums, the first one is suspended normally while the second pendulum is suspended in the first pendulum.

  • Foucault pendulum:

 Developed by Jean-Bernard Leon Foucault in the year 1852. This is a pendulum that can swing in two dimensions. Sir Foucault showed the rotation of the earth using the pendulum.

Conclusion:

The pendulum was a very important discovery and can say as a very necessary discovery. It is used in everyone’s daily life or day to day life. It is a very helpful invention and due to this, we used to know the shape of the earth.
