The graphs are commonly used to illustrate the relationships between the data with the help of visual representation. It generally represents the numerical data that is in a large set. It can be further argued that graphs can also be used with the purpose of deriving quantitative relationships between variables. However, there are two types of data that are collected for analysis such as qualitative data and quantitative data. However, there are different types of graphs that are used to collect these data. The pie chart and bar chart which is also a form of a graph that is used for qualitative data. Histograms are quite similar to bar graphs; however, they are used for collecting quantitative data.
Importance of graph to collect data
Since the data, especially the quantitative data, are too numerous and it often becomes difficult and complicated for the users to understand. However, graphs play a significant role in data collection as it shows a clear picture of the complicated and numerous data which helps to describe the big data adequately to the audiences and that too with the least amount of space. However, it can be further argued that there are various computer programs that can be used to generate the graph; however, the graphs follow a basic principle to provide a better and clear picture of the data that can be easily readable. The graphing is generally presented with the help of two main axes which are the x-axis and the y-axis. This is the most advantageous part of graphing since the data of independent variables and dependent variables are easily understandable and help the audience to collect the data.
Data Visualization
Data visualization can be considered as the umbrella term, which comprises both the information and data with an approach of scientific visualization. The graphing of the data is generally visualized in many forms such as charts, graphs, maps and even tables so that data can be easily collected for further analysis. The importance of data visualization can be considered for collecting the data as it represents the scientific approach which helps to provide a transparent and objective analysis of the data. The scientific approach from the data visualization helps the audiences to draw close relationships of the data with the real world subjects with spatial properties. However, the main purpose of data visualization is that it can generate and provide an image that has spatial information.
Different types of charts and graphs for Data Visualization
Line chart
The main purpose of using the line chart is that it displays the data following a series of data in different intervals which are further connected with different types of straight lines. Moreover, it can be said that such types of data visualization with the use of a line chart so that the changes in the numerical data over different intervals can be presented for further data collection. The line graphs are mainly used to collect qualitative data. In contrast, scatter graphs are used to collect quantitative data.
Pie chart
The pie chart is similar to the circle that is used for data visualization to explain the proportions of a whole. The pie charts are mostly used for providing small sets of data but however, from the pie charts only five values and a small set of data can be collected. Moreover, pie charts with a greater number of values become difficult for data collection. The pie chart is categorized into different slices and segments which show the data of a different group for a class. Each slice of a pie chart shows significant variations.
Bar graph
The graphing in bar graphs consists of two columns which are the horizontal columns and vertical columns. It has been observed from the bar graphs that the length of the bar is higher when the value is greater. The bar graph is mostly used so that the audiences can collect them and compare the value of a single variable with the different variables of a group.
Histogram
The histograms are used as it is very effective to understand the distribution of the frequencies. It can be said that histograms are the specialized types of bar graphs that can be used to present the data in different columns without giving any space in between the columns. The data can be collected from the histograms in order to explain if a variable is following a normal distribution among the target population. For instance, the distribution of protein levels among the different individuals of a population can be explained with the help of histograms.
Conclusion
The graph is used and can be considered as the most effective tool for collecting the data from a large set of numerics. The data are mostly huge in numbers and are very complicated to read and understand. However, it can be concluded that the visual representation of a large numerical value helps the audiences to have a better in-depth insight into the data and better understanding.
