The most common operators in algebraic expressions are + (addition), – (subtraction), * (multiplication), and / (division). For example, the expression “x + y = z” represents the relationship between three numbers: x, y, and z.

How are operators used in an algebraic expression?

Operators are the symbols which operate on the operands. In an expression, the operators occupy the central position. They tell us how to simplify the expression. For example, in the expression (x+y)(x-y), we have to first calculate x+y and then multiply it with (x-y). We can see that the operators + and – are placed between the operands x and y while the operator * is placed outside.
