The tropic of Capricorn and tropic of cancer are parallel lines running from east to the West. It is easy to locate the tropic of cancer and tropic of Capricorn as the Tropic of cancer is latitude on the Northern end of the equator, while the Tropic of Capricorn is latitude on the Southern end of the equator. Their position is described concerning the equator, and the North and South poles where the equator lies at 0° and the North and South poles are at 90°.
The Tropic of Cancer
The earth is divided into 180 different latitudes, where each latitude represents a given degree. Five latitudes are given specific names, including the tropic of Capricorn, the tropic of Cancer, the Antarctic circle, the equator, and the Arctic Circle. The equator is found in the middle of the earth and corresponds to 0°. It divides the earth into equal hemispheres. The tropic of cancer is situated at 23.5° North, and the tropic of Capricorn is situated at 23.5° South of the equator. The Arctic and Antarctic circles are at 66.5° to the North and South respectively. Hence, it is easier to locate the tropic of cancer and the tropic of Capricorn concerning their degrees and location of the hemisphere.
Tropic of Cancer is a line on the earth that runs from the east towards the West. Mexico, Bahamas, Libya, India, Mali, Oman, UAE, China, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Western Sahara, Algeria, etc., are the countries that fall on the tropic of Cancer. The sun is directed towards the tropic of cancer on the summer solstice, i.e. June 21. The name tropic of cancer originates from The constellation cancer, which resembles a crab. It was best viewed during the summer solstice.
Tropic of Capricorn
The Tropic of Capricorn is a line that runs from the East to the West and is situated at 23.5° south of the equator. The sun is directed towards the Tropic of Capricorn on December 21. This is the beginning of summer solstice in the Southern hemisphere and winter solstice in the northern hemisphere. Similar to the tropic of cancer, the tropic of Capricorn also derives its name from a constellation. Although the lining of the constellation for the tropic of Capricorn and the tropic of cancer has changed over the years, the names remain the same.
The Tropic of Capricorn divides the Southern hemisphere into The temperate zone towards the South and the tropical zone towards the North. The position of the Tropic of Capricorn is not always the same. It always changes because of a slight tilt in the axis of the earth.
