Safeguard Public Property

Know the importance of public property and how to safeguard them in detail.

Public property is any such property owned by a state/country’s government and is available to its entire citizen for use without any discrimination. Therefore, when using public property, one does not face discrimination based on caste, creed, sex, religion, race, etc.

What are some examples of public property?

Some examples of public property may include:

  1. Parks
  2. Streets
  3. Libraries
  4. Sidewalks

Public Properties

People of every country enjoy their public properties together. For example, the parks where we take a walk, the libraries where we study/read, the hospitals where we go for our health check-ups and other health emergencies, etc., are all made and owned by our country’s government.

All these public properties are built with the public money, that is, from the taxes we pay. Although the government is responsible for maintaining the public properties, it does not mean that “we”, the citizens, have no role in maintaining these properties. As these public properties cost a lot to build and maintain, if we, as citizens, do not use them properly and destroy them, it will not be easy for the government to replace them. Hence, the citizens’ duty increases in maintaining these public properties properly.

We should have respect for public property in our hearts as these properties were built for us and for our enjoyment and betterment; hence, if we do not take care of it properly, then it does not make us responsible and good citizens of our country.

Some citizens do not use the public properties properly; for example, they do not cleanly use the railway toilets, throw garbage in the parks (such as chips packets, chocolate wrappers, etc.), spit on the road while walking on it, etc. Besides having no respect for the public properties of their own country, they do not realize that by doing these things, they are ruining the public property and the surrounding environment as well.

During some riots and rallies, we witness that many telephone booths, monuments, etc., are damaged by the people. This should not happen as it destroys the goodness of our country. Carelessly using public property does not make that city a responsible citizen. Hence, destroying public properties is very foolish as one is harming oneself and as well as the progress of the country. We have to realize that we have no right to destroy public properties or use them recklessly as it is something that we all own collectively, and hence, as we all own it, it is our duty and responsibility to take proper care of it and maintain it. We all must develop a sense of cooperation in developing a comfortable and happy civic life, and to do this, we all must work together.

5 Ways to Maintain and Preserve Public Property:

  1. We should not do any damage to the public properties.
  2. Instead, we should help others to know the importance of public properties.
  3. Among all the people, awareness should be created so that everyone takes an active part in maintaining the public properties.
  4. All the rules and regulations made by the government should be positively followed while using public property.
  5. We should consider all public properties as our properties and then take care of them in the same way we care for our personal belongings.

Importance of Public Properties

We now know that public properties are land and buildings owned by the government and are made or built for our use and betterment; we should acknowledge these public properties’ importance in our lives. Public properties include schools, buses, colleges, hospitals, parks, museums, zoos, libraries, etc. Now, can we imagine our lives without any of these public properties? Of course not. For instance, where will the children get their education without schools and colleges? Without hospitals, how will we take care of our health, treat our diseases, and get proper health care?

Without parks, where will people go for morning walks, yoga sessions, or just kids playing and running around? And there are many more such things that would be impossible for us to even imagine without the public properties. As these properties were built for us and we have access to use them, the importance of these public properties increases in our lives. Without these public properties, we will not be able to continue with our lives by doing the things which we opt to do in our daily lives.

So, if we are using these public properties for our own use and convenience, we should also acknowledge their importance in our lives and take all the necessary steps to maintain these public properties. By doing so, we can call ourselves responsible citizens of our country.

Conclusion:

Public properties play a very vital role in our day to day lives. We should acknowledge its importance in our lives and learn how to maintain these public properties by properly caring for them and not destroying them.
