Civil service

Civil service is a term that refers to a government sector that is primarily made up of career civil servants who are hired on the basis of professional merit rather than being appointed or elected and whose institutional tenure typically outlasts changes in political leadership. A civil servant, also known as a public servant, is a person employed by a government department or agency to carry out public sector tasks. Civil servants work for both the federal and state governments, and they report to the government rather than a political party.

What is the Union Public Service Commission’s function?
