Definition of hydrogen
Hydrogen atom contains one proton within its nucleus placing it at the very first of the periodic table. The physical nature of the element comprises being colourless and tasteless. Uses of hydrogen or uses of hydrogen gas
In ammonia synthesis, there is the use of hydrogen at the industrial level, which is the most important use of hydrogen. Hydrogen is also used in the manufacturing of nitrogenous fertilisers. Hydrogen also acts as a reducing agent. For the synthesis of vanaspati oil i.e. for hydrogenation of vegetable oil hydrogen is highly used. If a temperature of around 2500℃ is required for welding then hydrogen is used in the atomic and oxyhydrogen torch. Hydrogen is also used for electricity generation in the United States.
In many industrial processes, hydrogen is used
Industries like treating metals, processing food, refining petroleum, etc. use almost all of the hydrogen consumed in the United States. To lower the sulphur content of the fuel, petroleum refineries use hydrogen in the United States.
Electricity is produced by hydrogen fuel cell
By combining hydrogen and oxygen atoms hydrogen fuel cells produce electricity. Similar to that of a battery to produce small amounts of heat, water, and electricity, across electrochemical cells hydrogen also reacts with oxygen. For a wide range of applications, many different types of fuel cells are available. Cell phones, computers, laptops, and military applications can run from small fuel cells of hydrogen. To supply emergency power in buildings, to supply electricity to electric power grids, and to supply the electricity in those places which are not connected to power grids large fuel cells are required.
Uses of hydrogen in vehicles
Under the Energy Policy Act of 1992 alternative vehicle fuel that is considered is hydrogen. Then the gasoline-running internal combustion engine, a fuel cell maybe three times more efficient.
For exploring outer space hydrogen is used
