Fullerene

Fullerene refers to a carbon allotrope that consists of atoms of carbon closely connected by single or double bonds and a part of a hollow sphere.

Fullerene is a type of molecule that principally consists of carbon atoms that are closely connected with single as well as double bonds. Fullerene is stronger than diamond, and it is an allotrope of carbon. It is commonly used in different sectors like electrical and mechanical industries. Apart from that, Fullerene is commonly applied as a carrier in terms of gene as well as drug delivery purposes. This particular product is excessively used in different industries as it has strong mechanical rigidity and the clear structure and soft materialistic composition make the Fullerene more applicable in different industrial purposes.      

The concept of Fullerene

The formation of Fullerene is integrally connected by the carbon particles that are structured like the cage and in a further application; Fullerene contains several atoms of carbons that make the element stronger. The molecules of Fullerene can be in the hollow sphere or they can be ellipses of different types of shapes and sizes. This particular material has a natural form of tending that is referred to as highly symmetrical. The composition, as well as its structure, is quite similar to graphite, which is very helpful for the making of hexagonal rings that is quite similar to cage structure as well as Fullerene is also applicable for the heptagonal rings.   2. Fullerene is also severely used in terms of heat as well as an electrical conductor. In the current day, the uses of Fullerene are seen in the applications of photovoltaic and to compose different types of cosmetic products Fullerene is severely applied. 
  3. The significant type of Fullerene is Buckminster and this form of an element is mostly used in the system of drug delivery and in the composition of the lubricants. 
  1. In the medical industry, the usage of Fullerene is commonly seen as most of the pathological activities are performed with the application of this type of carbon element. For example, in terms of the performance of the “MRI contrast agent” in the pathological department Fullerene is commonly applied. Apart from that, the X-ray machinery particles and photodynamic therapy are also done with the application of Fullerene. 

Properties of Fullerene

There are two different types of properties of Fullerene that  are physical properties and the other is chemical properties. 

  1. The physical properties of Fullerene consist of higher temperature changes with the growth of temperature as well as pressure. Fullerene contains “7.61 electron volts” in terms of ionization enthalpy and “2.6 to 2.8 electrons volts” in terms of electron affinity. 
  2. The chemical properties of Fullerene resemble an electrophone that mainly performs as an “electron acceptor group” and the behaviour is quite similar to an oxidizing agent. Ferromagnetism is another significant chemical property of Fullerene that guides the exhibit of different types of superconductivity properties.
