1931 Session of the Indian National Congress
- The 1931 session of the Indian National Congress was the 45th session of the party
- It was led under the chairmanship of Vallabhai J Patel and was held in Karachi, Pakistan
- The 1931 INC session is significant owing to the party’s ratification of the Gandhi-Irwin pact (signed by Mahatma Gandhi and Lord Irwin)
- Furthermore, the resolution of “Fundamental Rights and Economic Policy” was taken under the chairmanship of Vallabbhai J. Patel
- The policy ought to provide civil liberties, abolish the practice of untouchability, ensure minimum wages and protection of fundamental rights of the citizens of India
- Although the pact was concluded, the congress session opened with the execution of Bhagat Singh with others enraging the younger fractions and on the other hand, Jawaharlal Nehru and Subash Chandra Bose were not satisfied with the terms of the Gandhi-Irwin pact
- Besides everything, the congress party finally sealed the pact with one united voice
