Thermal Pollution

The study has the focus point of thermal pollution and its severe effect on the environment. The major causes behind thermal pollution are the main emphasis of the study

Table of Content
  •

Pollution has become the major issue in the current scenario and has been creating a greater loss for the environment. Pollution has a severe effect on the environment and ecology and is becoming the main aspect that has disturbed the target relationship between the environment and its organism. Ecology is considered as the relationship between the environment and its abiotic and biotic components. Thermal pollution is considered as the change in the natural temperature in any habitat.

Definition of Environment and Ecology

The environment is the term that can be explained as the complex of chemical, physical and biological factors such as living organisms, soil, and climate. All these aspects of the environment act as the community or ecological community that helps to determine the form and survival of the living organism. The related behaviour of all of these components such as chemical, biological and physical factors are considered as the environment. Terrestrial, atmospheric and aquatic is considered as the three types of environments that are based on its component and their behaviour. Ecology controls and maintains the relationship between all the components and their relationship with the environment. Ecology is the field of study where the main concern is to observe the interaction between the organism and the environment.  Ecology and the environment are closely related to each other and have major effects on living and nonliving organisms.

Concept of Thermal Pollution

Thermal pollution is considered as the thermal enrichment where the temperature of natural water bodies suddenly decreases or increases. Water bodies have their natural temperature that is suitable for the living organisms in the water bodies. The increase or decrease of the temperature of the water bodies can be the major cause behind the harm of the living organisms in the water bodies. Industrial machines and thermal power plants are the major contributor to the temperature gain of temperature decrease in the water bodies. The wastewater of the thermal plants and industries is sometimes drained into the local water bodies. This activity of the thermal plants and industries can be the major cause of thermal pollution.  The thermal power plants and the industries sometimes have been taking their required water from the natural water bodies such as rivers, lakes, and many more. They have retired the water in the water body with a very high temperature that could be harmful to the living animals of water bodies. Thermal pollution is the biggest problem in modern society and can cause harmful effects on the environment. Thermal pollution can change the level of oxygen in the water bodies and can destroy the components of water that could create major harm for the living organism.

Causes of Thermal Pollution

Some major causes of thermal pollution can cause some drastic harmful effects on the environment and water bodies. The major cause of thermal pollution is man-made and various major causes can be natural causes of thermal pollution. Thermal power plants are the main reason behind thermal pollution because it drains a major amount of waste into the water bodies. The wastage of the thermal plants can increase the temperature of the water bodies that can cause thermal pollution. Industrial wastewater can increase and decrease the temperature of the water bodies.

Industrial water sometimes drains into the local water bodies causing harm to the living water organism and creating thermal pollution. Water is used as the cooling agent in industrial plants and power plants where water is heated and sent back to the local water bodies. Soil erosion sometimes can be the cause of thermal pollution. At the time of soil erosion, water bodies rise and connect more with the heat of the sun. Deforestation can be the major cause behind the thermal pollution that can increase the temperature of the water bodies. Trees can have the potential to protect the water bodies from heat. Deforestation can promote soil erosion and lack of rain that can cause thermal pollution.

Effect of Thermal Pollution

Thermal pollution has a major effect on the environment and its related components. Thermal pollution disturbs the ecology and the relationship between all the living organisms of the environment. Thermal pollution can cause major effects on the water bodies. It can cause the disturbance of the equilibrium of the water bodies. Thermal pollution can decrease the dissolved oxygen level in the water bodies. Decreases in the level of cause the suffocation of the animals that lived in water noise can be reduced. It also can cause the mass death of living organisms such as fish and many other animals that can disturb the equilibrium of the environment. Toxins are increased by the thermal pollution in the water viruses that can cause major harm for the living animals in the water. It has a severe ecological impact as it can cause the death of living organisms in the water biopsies such as plants, fish, and microbes.

Conclusion

Thermal pollution has an association with industrial cooling activities. There are various major effects of thermal pollution that can cause major harm to living organisms. The relationship between ecology and the environment can be discussed in the present study. The various aspects of pollution such as thermal pollution are discussed in the present study. Effects of thermal pollution have been discussed here in the present study.

Ans : There must be a priority to treat the water of the thermal plants and industries before draining it to the water bodies. Cooling towards or cooling ponds can be made to treat the wastewater from thermal plants and industries.

Ans : Death of living organisms of water bodies because of decreased DO is the major impact of thermal pollution.
