Paris Agreement

Climate change and global warming are two “global emergencies”. The “Paris agreement” is an “international treaty” for fighting the detrimental effects of climate change.

In this modern era of technological advancement, one of the major concerns which have shaken up the entire world is “global warming”. It represents a slow but steady increase in Earth’s temperature. It occurs when solar radiation and sunlight get trapped by the suspended air pollutants thereby enhancing “greenhouse gas” generation. “Climate change” represents the shifting temperature and patterns of weather caused by global warming. The “Paris agreement” is an initiative that aims to limit the temperature rise caused by “global warming” thereby restricting its limit to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Concept of Environment and Ecology

The word “Environment” represents the climatic condition of a definite geographical region in which humans, animals, and plants co-exist in close association. It can also represent the natural world as a whole (soas.ac.uk, 2022). Therefore, it is easily understandable that climate is an integral part of the environment. On the other hand, “ecology” is the study that includes the surrounding environment. In other words, human beings share a certain relationship with their surrounding environment that is thoroughly studied in “ecology” . It is a no-brainer that from the primitive times, for meeting the basic needs of a human i.e. food, clothes, and shelter, they are dependent on the surrounding nature. Modern human beings have progressed radically but they have not been able to get rid of their dependency on the surrounding nature fully. Therefore, the environment or the surrounding nature needs to be protected for keeping it habitable for the existing as well as for the upcoming generations. Studying “ecology” helps in identifying the detrimental effects exerted by destructive human activities on the surrounding nature thereby enabling Eco-conscious humans to take initiatives for reducing those destructive effects caused by the irresponsibility of humans.

Paris Climate Agreement

Climate change is considered a “global emergency”. In the present world, burning issues like global warming and climate change are not restricted within the man-made borders among different nations. Such issues are gradually leading the entire mankind into grave danger and towards the path of extinction. Therefore, these issues need active participation from people of the entire world. As an inevitable effect of climate change, a “long-term shift” can be noticed in the patterns of weather and the global temperature. The rise in the sea levels due to the melting of the glaciers, droughts, heat waves, storms, enhanced ocean temperature, etc. are some of the pernicious effects of climate change (worldwildlife.org, 2022). To get rid of such detrimental natural calamities and to revive the lost health of our planet back, restricting the rise in global temperature can be a productive solution.

On 12th December 2015, the global leaders who participated in the “UN Climate Change Conference” (COP21) organized in Paris signed an “international treaty” namely the “Paris Agreement”. At present, 191 countries of the world including the “European Union” are members of this treaty. This treaty came into action on 4th November 2016. The prime aim of this treaty was to focus on decreasing the emission of “greenhouse gasses” thereby restricting the level of global temperature increase to preferably 1.5 degrees Celsius. The mentioned agreement reviews the level of commitment shown by each one of the member countries at an interval of 5 years (un.org, 2022). Apart from that, the “Paris Agreement” looks after the developing nations by provisioning them with financial support. This kind of support is provided for helping such countries to resolve the climate change issues and for adopting the negative impacts of climate change.

Significance of Paris Agreement on Climate Change

The “Paris Agreement” has laid a fruitful “global framework” for fighting against the concerning global threats like climate change and global warming. One of the major significance of this “international treaty” has been the adoption of “green initiatives” by the member countries for reducing the generation of harmful “greenhouse gases” that act as a major contributor to “global warming”. As a consequence of this united effort of the member nations, the disastrous effects exerted by global warming and climate change can be handled with sincerity (ec.europa.eu, 2022). Therefore, this treaty has been significant in enhancing the eco-consciousness of the “global leaders”.

Conclusion

“Ecology” is a study that helps human beings to be more respectful and responsible for their surrounding nature as the environment plays a key role in the life of each individual. With the advancement in technology, the consciousness regarding the surrounding environment has been decreasing, and “global emergencies” like “climate change” and “global warming” are inevitable consequences of that reluctance. The “Paris Accord”, also known as the “Paris Agreement”has been an initiative that includes 191 nations and the“European Union” to come together for work towards limiting the rising global temperature at a minimum level of 1.5 degrees Celsius.
