Women And Development

The topic of Women and Development is a very dynamic and important topic for everyone. It has a vital role to play when it comes to the upliftment of different communities as they only have an equal share as men in society.

With time many things have changed and gotten better but in the domain of women and Development, this is unbelievably slow and limited to some women only. 40% of the world’s labour force are women including the informal work at home, in the market, or on the land.Development affects both the man and the woman differently, mostly with more of a negative impact on the woman. Everyone has noticed the fact that a woman is mostly underpaid for going to the same job as a man. This is a very common thing to see even in developed countries.

What is meant by Women and Development?

Women and Development are two things that go hand in hand as any community cannot reach perfection only with their half population working.Women in Development is a very important concept, it is based on the recognition of status and their roles in the development of society. All communities need to make sure that their women also contribute equally to their men. Opportunities like these help in the pavement of new ways and ideas to enhance and develop the status of women in society.

Role of Women in the Development

India is the largest democracy where almost half of the population are females. What is the status of women in the country? Is it helping the communities in growth?Amartya Sen is a Nobel Prize winner in economics and says ‘every one of us can use the good that matters, Utilities that are gotten from a loaf of bread can differ from one person to another. Every person in society has their job and has roles to fulfil, we do not have the right to differentiate between them and suppress them.Women altogether play two roles in society that is doing services as well as their household domestic chores, yet they get neglected when it comes to their contribution to society. More than half of the jobs done by women are poorly paid or unpaid. The job is not protected and all the surrounding business is informal. If the country achieves or even gets near to the goal of bringing gender equality, then it is estimated that the country will cross US$700 billion in GDP by the year 2025.

Developing Women

The Department of women and child development should make sure that the women are aware; the department should run or fund awareness programs frequently so that the knowledge is available to the maximum population.

Women and Development are the things in which we can not just depend on the government, people also need to take small steps as an individual.

  • Education: It is the first step toward development. There is also a very popular quote that says, “If you educate a man, only an individual gets educated, but if you educate a woman, you educate a Nation”. If girls get educated, then they will make sure that their children also get educated. This will bring prosperity and growth to the community and also the nation
  • Appreciate and help to adjust: People need to appreciate every woman, mother, or girl. Saying thank you, showing gratitude, or giving compliments are very small steps but make a big difference, it brings a smile to their face and with that makes Confidence. Confidence to achieve something, Confidence to fight for themselves, Confidence to raise their voice
  • Support the Organizations that Empower Women: You can donate money, some of your time, or bring some help to different organizations to support and empower the women in need. Even the smallest step matters

Two-thirds of the world’s illiterate population are women. In India, the recent census has shown that still only 70% of women are educated in the country.Natural calamities and food shortages have also led to increased rates of early marriages in girls.
