The development issues have been considered as the most important issues for India. The development issues are the main barrier in the development of a country. Through addressing these development issues, the government can develop a plan that can meet all the needs. In this study, the discussion on poverty in India and the development issues due to poverty has been elaborated.
What are poverty and developmental issues in India?
One of the most crucial problems for any developing country is poverty, which has been considered as the biggest barrier in the development of a nation. India is one of the fastest developing countries in the world, but India is also facing the problem of poverty in its development. Poverty means living in societies without basic necessities such as food, clothing as well as housing. India has been facing poverty from the time of independence, in the first quarter of independence, the poverty of India rose from 47 to 56 percent. It is seen that between 1974 to 2000 the poverty rate dropped by 53%. The poverty in India increases the food crisis among the poor people and the food crisis increases the risk of different deficiency diseases especially among the children. As per the official information, poverty in the India can rise by 0.6% with limited control measurements taken by the governments and by 7% if strict measurements get introduced. These things influence the overall development of Indian infants due to poverty. The increase in poverty rate brings an immense decline in the education level of the country. From the UNICEF data it has been noted that 2 million fewer children are out of schools due to poverty. India lacks in providing the basic education to the children and the lack of basic education increases the unemployment in the country. The low income of the Indian prompts the child labor in their adolescence period and implements a very harmful effect on the children of India. Number Indian children in hazardous work environments has risen to 79 million since 2016.
Current events and developmental issues in India
India is a developing nation and it has been facing a lot of development issues since independence. Till this time corruption in the country is also contributing towards the rising developmental issues across India.
Infrastructure issue
The economy and the development of India lay on power, gas, oil, aviation roads and so on. The problem of poor road infrastructure, clogged airports, and old technologies in power plants, improper management in the gas and oil industry reduces the speed of development. This lack of infrastructure has pulled the GDP growth down by 1-2%. Gap between the electricity production line and its demand across the country has become a major infrastructure issue. The transportation system of India is not well comfortable for the people, so people are forced to use private vehicles and spend a big amount on their transportation. In addition to that, civil aviation as well as ports also need modernization. Poverty remains the root issue for India from the time of independence and it needs to be addressed properly by the government authorities.
Developmental issues in infancy
The child developmental issue is another major concern in India. The lack of proper nutrition increases the risk of many diseases among them and creates problems in their overall health development. The reports say that more than 6000 infants die in one day and half of the 6000 die due to malnutrition. This malnutrition causes brain development in children. Physical damages such as blindness and mental damages like impaired learning, lack of cognitive development. This negatively compromises economic aspects. The different nutrients like vitamins, irons, zinc, and folic acid and so on are necessary for the development of their brain. The low standard of living of a family affects the mental development of the infants. Cases of micronutrient deficiency have been noted among the infants that lead to deficiencies that inhibit intellectuals and physical potential of the children. Lack of Iron during pregnancy can be fatal for life and it should be prevented during pregnancy. Additionally Iodine deficiency also leads to less cognitive development among the children in India.
Conclusion
The study shows that major infrastructure developmental issues in India have become a big issue in its way forward. Malnutrition of the children has impacted the mental and physical growth of the children. Through the development of an education system for caregivers, this issue can be addressed. Skill development courses and initiating major civil infrastructure development can create employment opportunities in India. Proper food security should be provided to both children and parents so that a health society can foster.
