“Young Adulthood” can be defined as a unique developmental time that generally occurs between the age group of 18-23 years. It is the character-building period.

“Young adulthood” can be termed as a character-building session for the young generation of a nation. It has been observed that several characteristics and psychological changes occur during this time. The proper channelization of these changes helps in the betterment of society. The age range for “Young adulthood” is between 18-25 years. The “Young adults” create a huge positive impact on society and act as a driving force for the betterment of society. The young adults reform the old age ideology with innovation and advanced communication. As a result, it can be said that young adults act as a bridge between the previous generation and the upcoming generation.

Young adulthood: Definition

The term “Young adulthood” can be defined as the developmental and character-building phase for the young generation of the society. It is the time when the young generation of the society creates their own unique identity and takes part in self-exploration. “Young adulthood” is important for society as young adults are the prime contributor to the workforce and resources of a nation. The development of a society depends on the characteristic behaviour of the “Young adults”.

“Young adulthood”: age range

The “age range” for “Young adulthood” is approximately between 18-25 years. This age range is defined as adulthood as the physical, psychological, and intellectual maturity developed in this phase. Young adults achieve the skills to make the right decision for the betterment of their own. According to WHO the age range for “Young adulthood” is between 10-24 years.

Stages of adulthood

“Adulthood” can be segmented into three different stages as “Young adulthood”, “Mid adulthood”, and “late stage of adulthood”. The age range of young adulthood is between 18-25 years. The specified age range for mid-adulthood is between 25-35 years. However, the age range for late adultery is from 35 to the rest of the life. The “Young adults” gain the skill of self-awareness and execute the role and responsibility of life.

“Young adulthood”: cognitive development

“Cognitive development” is the process of achieving the skills of decision-making and problem-solving ability. It has been observed that “Young adulthood” is the developmental phase of roles and responsibilities. It is the phase of developing the skill of setting sustainable goals and objectives in life and putting maximum efforts to achieve the goals in life as a result, individual productivity and efficiency improvements. It is the phase of creating a bridge between adolescence and adulthood. The challenges that the young generation face help them in developing roles and responsibilities. It has been observed that the success and failure in this phase help in navigating the trajectories in life. As a result, psychological maturity develops, which helps in maintaining the pressure in the upcoming life.

Importance of young adulthood on the society

“Young adulthood” is the phase when young adults gain a creative mindset and innovative thinking ability. The creative mindset and innovative thinking help the society to achieve its sustainable goals, which helps in enhancing productivity as a nation. The adaptability and resilient behaviour of the “Young adults” creates a great opportunity for society to bring changes for the wellness of the society. 

Pathways that young adults follow

It has been observed that the “Young adults” follow an unpredictable pathway. The pathways that the young generation takes are full risk and differ greatly from the older generation. As a result, a huge gap has occurred between the older generation and the “Young generation”.

  • The Young adult has less clarity in thoughts. The “Young adult” takes more time to complete the academics. Moreover, the dropout rate is high.
  • Finishing the academic year, the young generation joins in jobs but fails to continue the job due to high expectancy and low stability.
  • The “Young adults” often move towards the entrepreneurial mindset.

Based on the discussion it becomes possible to make the conclusion that, “Young adulthood” creates a huge positive impact on the betterment of society. It is an important chapter for the “Kerala PSC” exam. The age range of “Young adulthood” needs to be kept in mind. The different adulthood and its corresponding age range need to be remembered. It can be said that young adults take the unorthodox route to achieve their goals in life. The innovative thinking and creative mindset help society to achieve high productivity. As a result, the efficiency of the nation improves.
