Here this topic will provide some information about Late Childhood. This is an important stage of human development. Children reach this much faster than imagination.

Late childhood introduces a child to the outer world for the first time. Between 9 to 12 years is the late childhood age. In between this stage, children develop very quickly. Some various types of development occur in Late Childhood. Here those different types of development and the characteristics of late childhood will be discussed.

Late childhood: – 

It is the very first puberty that usually begins. Boys and girls have experienced so many things for the first time in their life in this Late Childhood stage. They also grow so fast during this age between 9 to12. This is the ideal late childhood age. In this period, children try to adjust to society and their families. Such as, they try to communicate with their neighbours, friends, relatives, etc. Some different characteristics of late childhood are shown by the parents, teachers of children, and psychologists also define this stage of human development.

Each stage represents a particular transformation among children, and each of these stages has different characteristics. These are mentioned here-

Troublesome age: –

Before this development period, children are willing to do what their parents are told them, but in this stage, they are quite influenced by their peers rather than their parents

Sloppy age: -.

In this stage, children tend to be careless about their appearance. When their rooms are totally messed up, entering that room is going to be impossible at that time.

  Quarrelsome age: –

During late childhood, in the stage of quarrelsome age, children fight with their families, leading to emotional turmoil and sometimes creating distance with their families.

Psychologists also have divided late childhood into different stages, and here, we will present a short description regarding that.

Gang age-

In this stage, children want to make friends with same-age children and build relationships with them while creating a gang.

Age of conformity-

They feel free by their appearance and behaviour under their gang of friends during this period.

Eliminatory school age –

Children are trying to gather some knowledge that is very important for their future.

Creative age –

In this stage of development, children try to make or invent some new things on their own. Their creative minds are flourishing in this stage for the very first time.

Developments and characteristics of late childhood: –

Some developments also occur in this stage of human development called Late Childhood. The types of developments are-

Improvement zone under mental development-

When a child goes through Late Childhood, their vocabularies grow. With the help of teachers, classmates, radio, TV, newspaper, internet, etc., they try to gather some knowledge, which helps them to develop their vocabulary. Though errors and mistake in punctuation is often common in this

Content and quality of speech-

 In this stage, children try to follow the person they like most. They always try to make fun of others for entertaining their elders. Though they follow their parents, family members and other elders, the content of their speech and their behaviour also depends on them.

Emotions-

Children can control their emotions in this stage from others.

Social behaviour-

This age is another name which is gang age. In this stage, children create a gang of them and try to make that stronger.

Love for school-

Children also start to think that their life is centred on their school. Classmates and the school create a lovable environment for children.

Other mental development–

 Though they like to gather information, children learn to use that information to complete any problems. Also, they start to understand the concept of honesty, value, loyalty etc.

Now here, the late childhood physical development will be described.

Slow growth-

In this crucial stage of human development, the development is going too slow, but that growth is steady.

Motor development-

Those children are passing under this stage, their muscles have become strong, and the development of the motor is going to be more specific.

Healthy growth-

The parent should involve them with some outdoor games such as cricket, football, hockey, etc., to make their growth more healthy. Also, make a healthy diet plan for them.

Provide some proper and relevant information about sex-

The differences between boys and girls are shown under this stage. The physical development between them is going to be different.

Weight and height-

A child normally gains 5 to 7 pounds weight per year. According to that, the height also increases by 2 to 3 inches per year.

Visual acuity development-

In this stage, the eyes are developed. So that the visual acuity also develops.

Teeth-

Most importantly, children lose their milk teeth, and the permanent teeth have come in this stage.

Here a brief of Late Childhood has been discussed. This is a very prime time for the children who are passing through these chapters and for their parents. They go through so many different types of development. They also enjoyed their late childhood. Here all mental and physical development is briefly described. With the help of that development, they can spend their life properly. Most importantly, children’s social and cultural environments create a huge impact on them.
