Infrastructure reflects the quality of architectural standard as prevalent in the particular region all the while, symbolising the pattern and significant attributes associated with the culture of that particular region. With the course of time and use of science and technology, the ever-evolving architecture and infrastructural patterns reflect upon the current societal standards and approach of the community regarding the infrastructure and relative patterns. Over time, several types of infrastructures have been implemented in practice in the course of Infrastructure development especially the rural infrastructure in India.

Types of Infrastructures

The infrastructure of a country or a place facilitates growth and prosperity in terms of ease of access and communicability for the people residing in a particular region. These types are further subdivided into sectors.

  • Aviation: From the 1950s to the current day, the world has come far in the aviation sector that is heavily sought after in terms of travelling and communication. Infrastructural development in this sector implies expansion of airports for flight accommodations, remodelling of the buildings, and implementation of standardised measures on the ground and on the flight that would address the safety and ease of public transport. 
  • Telecommunications: This sector has become an inseparable part of our life with the rapid rate of progress in the field of the telecommunication sector. Usage of optic fibres for a faster mode of data transfer and communication, improvisation in the satellite and their respective signal strength, and betterment of mobile towers with the usage of 5G networks are some of the infrastructural developments in this sector.
  • Bridges: In the course of daily transport it is important to link different parts of the region, which would help assist in the growth of revenue by further encouraging ease in the process of business conduction and communication among the people. 
  • Energy: This sector is responsible for the generation of power and energy of a country for its sustenance and conduction of business. Traditionally, coal and gas plants are used for power generation. However, in modern times infrastructural development has led to the building of solar and wind power plants, hydro and geothermal energy for electricity and power supply.
  • Railway: Railway has been an important mode of transport for a long time. It has played a key part in the infrastructural development in India, several developmental measures have been undertaken. For example, implementation of high-speed engines for faster travelling, expansion of the network of railway tracks and Wi-Fi services for communication.
  • Roadways: Needless to mention roadways have been the most important mode of communication among people since the time of its implementation in our ever progressing civilization. Infrastructural development includes expansion and improvement in the condition of roadways, construction of over bridges, flyovers, and tunnels.
  • Water management: It is necessary to implement measures to ensure the supply of clean and refined water for the sustenance of the people. Measures of infrastructure development include the construction and maintenance of water pipelines, maintenance of treatment plants and septic tanks, dams, and drains.
  • Waste management: It is important to implement measures that would otherwise hinder the sanitation and health status of the individuals. This sector is responsible for cleanliness in the water supply as well as society. Development in the infrastructure of this sector includes the recycling facilities, water treatment plants, waste transports, etc.

Rural infrastructure in India

Around 65% of people in India reside in rural regions requiring the attention towards infrastructural development in the rural regions. There are several prevalent restraints in the course of developmental measures in the regions, lack of funds, legal affairs, and temperament of people. However several measures have been undertaken like the establishment of public toilets, improvised main roadways, the establishment of educational institutes facilitating literacy among people, and also measures that promote tourism.
