Case Study

The term “case study” captures a range of perspectives that focuses on a particular topic to understand the subject. The hypothesis formulations are encountered in the form of case studies in psychology.

In psychological concern, there are considerations of case study as it focuses on the intensive study regarding a person, group of people or certain facts. While discussing the different perspectives of case studies in the psychological perspective there are classifications of different case studies such as collective case studies, descriptive case studies and explanatory case studies. In psychology, it helps to generate new ideas that are used in exploratory research. In psychology, the case study method helps to implement intensive study.

What is a “case study”?

A case study is an in-depth study of a person or an organisation that refers to using the descriptive research approach to obtain the analytical description of an individual. There are certain models that are utilised in the development of case studies such as

SE = a1+b1(GI)(AG) + e

GI=a2 + b2(SE) (AG) + e

AG = a3 + b3(SE)(GI) + e

In this method, self-esteem and self-concepts are highlighted, AG stands for attitude towards a group and GI stands for group identity. SE stands for self-esteem. The formation of a multifaceted understanding of factored and complex issues is presented in the form of a case study in psychology.

“Properties of case study in psychology”

  • There are different types of case studies that are formulated in psychology, with the description of Lewin Kurt’s equations on psychology B=f(P, E).

  • Case studies on different perspectives are followed by the behaviour of human beings. In this respect in polynomial case studies there is consideration of ax2+bx2+c, in this equation, the real number of psycho graphs are addressed

  • In some cases, there are considerations of σsg = σsl + σlg ⋅ cosθ, as described by p.v. Young. According to Young, there are seven stages of classifying the scientific methods for utilising the formations of the case study. In this equation presented by P.V. young, σsg stands for free energy to encounter in the psychological description of the case study. Σsl stands for interfacial tension and σlg stands for the surface tension.

  • Groode and Hatt have presented the methods of exploring and analysing the life of the social unit. In this respect, the number of units is to be studied in small quantities.

  • According to C.H. Cooley, the case study is presented through the algorithm of Fast Fourier transform (FFT), this is re-expressed by discrete Fourier transform (DFT). According to Cooley, the presentation of a case study is defined as the input of N=N1N2.

  • As per the description of Jahoda, the case study is a small inclusive and intensive study, where the investigators bring the skills and methods of forming a case study.

  • Mathematical psychology highly affects the development of case studies, in this regard, there are considerations of case study format. In this format, a selection of problems, description of events, factors that are influencing the study and data recording and processing are presented.

Types of “case study”

The case study method is a learning technique that is implemented to face particular problems. In the micro-case study, the combination of the pettiness of executive overview and visual punch is highlighted with the value of engagement of participants. In the psychology case history, there is consideration of human behaviour and UX design is introduced in the form of case study in psychology. In consideration of case study analysis, computer-based problems are introduced in the development of computer-assisted methods of the case study.

∂tu + (i∂x) mu + H(u, ∂xu, . . . , ∂m−1 x u)=0

In this method, satisfactory stable bonding is followed with a special domain where the different types of case studies are introduced.

Collective case studies

Studying with a group of individuals, looking at the entire community or people

Descriptive case study

Descriptive theories, pre-existing theories

Exploratory case studies

Prelude to further or more in-depth research

Explanatory case studies

Looking at the factors

Instrumental case study

Initially obvious to observers

Intrinsic case study

Development of personal interest

Difference between “psychology” and “case study”

Case study is the research method that helps to explore the research in-depth and convey a perfect shape of the subject while experimenting with the research. In psychological aspects, there is consideration of highly used case studies, which are best known by Sigmund Freud. While delivering the formations of the case study, Freud has investigated “abnormal psychology” and “psychiatry”. Both Psychology and case studies are differentiated with the help of the “idiographic approach”.

“Case study” example

The case of Phineas Gage is one of the famous examples of a case study in psychology. In this case study, there is consideration of different stages of brain functions that affects personality and cognitive ability. Another famous example of a case study in psychology is Anna O and Genie.

Conclusion

It can be concluded that the entire discussion on the case study is analysed by the certain limitations of a case study. In this perspective, the holistic point of view is expressed with the explanation of humanistic psychology. The case study on a particular topic provides detailed information and provides insight for further research. It permits the investigation of impractical situations. Again, the types of case studies are the Forms of psychological perspective, there are many types of case studies that are funded such as descriptive case studies, explanatory case studies and instrumental case studies and others.
