Sentence correction is a grammatical practice that has been used in a sentence with a phrase or a word that requires improvement or grammatical changes.

Introduction

Sentence improvement or sentence correction is a grammatical practice that has been used to correct the sentence according to the rules of grammar and remove all the grammatical errors from the sentences. It is necessary to fix spelling mistakes and correct errors. It can help score high in national level exams. 

Correction in sentences: Definition

Correction in sentences is always necessary to fix the sentences from the grammatical errors. Verbs and tenses should maintain agreement with the subject. Correction in sentence is a grammatical practice by which a thorough knowledge about the verb, tenses, and spelling can be accumulated for constructing meaningful sentences. Correction in sentence refers to usage of appropriate articles, verbs, adjectives, nouns for constructing meaningful sentences. It is also important that something needs to be checked in the sentence which can gain more numbers in the competitive exam. 

Language proficiency in English

There are four domains in language proficiency: reading, speaking, writing, and listening. Language proficiency measures each individual’s proficiency by scaling their score in the respective domains mentioned above. English language proficiency means the ability of the students to correctly use the English language to communicate with each other in verbal communication as well as in the written time to complete their study. 

General Rules for correct sentences:

  • One should check if the initial letter of a sentence is capitalised.
  • Proper nouns or any particular name of a person, object or a place should be capitalised.
  • The personal pronoun ‘I’ should always be used in capital.
  • Initial letters of a degree of designations should be capitalised.
  • Subject and verb should agree in terms of number and tense.
  • Sentences should end either with full stop, exclamation mark or question mark.
  • Punctuation marks must be followed properly.
  • Prepositions should be avoided at the end of the sentences other than exceptional cases.

Sentence correction is crucial and should never be neglected before submitting a document for formal purposes. Correct answers are the vital aspect to get a good number in the exam. Correct sentences that are grammatical-error-free, and have proper tenses with verbs are often used to make a good presentation.
