Change of voice is one of the key factors in English grammar and it is divided into two types such as active voice and passive voice. In the case of active voices, the subject plays the action which is expressed through the verb while in the passive voice the subject receives the actions that are expressed by the verb.
Meaning of voice
The voice is very crucial in a sentence for understanding the disposition of the subject in a specific sentence, whether it is receiving the action, or performing the action.
Active voice: In this mode of voice, the subject is the doer of the action. For example, Philip sings a song, in this sentence, the subject is “Philip” while the verb of the sentence is “Sings” and “song” is the object of this sentence. Furthermore, singing is the action performed by the subject of this sentence which is ‘Philip’.
Passive Voice:in this mode of voice, the subject is the receiver of the action. For example, A song is sung by Philip, the subject of this sentence is ‘Song’ while the verb is ‘is sung’. In this sentence, the action which is ‘singing’ performed by “Philip” and ‘song’ is the entity of the sentence to which the action has been made.
Role of the active and passive voice
Active voice is usually used in daily conversations. Passive voice is used in educational essays, reports and notice writing. Content writing is divided into two parts such as direct marketing which involves copy and ads and indirect marketing which involves articles and blogs. However, in both aspects of the marketing use of the active voice is effective to seek and capture the attention of the audience. The main motive of the active voice is to present a sentence in a simple way that is helpful for the reader to understand more easily during the reading.
Importance of the passive voice
It has been observed that the passive voice is mainly used in formal texts. This mode of voice is used when the user does not want to explain who performed the action of the sentence. It also plays a key role while someone shows interest in the action that is performed by the object or person rather than the object or person that made the action.
Active vs. passive voice
